Valhalla Java Coffee Bean Origins
Like the freshness you feel after a hot steaming shower, this stimulating yet grounding blend creates a euphoric earthy escape from your long days. We like to think of it as the perfect blend to wind down to, otherwise known as Valhalla Java Odinforce Blend.
Valhalla Java was carefully crafted for The World’s Most Powerful Guitarist, Zakk Wylde. It is a blend of arabica and robusta beans sourced mainly from Honduras, Guatemala, Sumatra, Peru and India (and of course, it's all Fair Trade). Each varietal, ranging from medium to dark, gets roasted separately, which makes Valhalla Java the perfect medium-dark roast coffee.
What really sets these countries apart from anywhere else in the world? Let’s take a look.
Honduras
Honduras, although small, is rich in different varieties, processes, altitudes, micro-climates, cup profiles and more. Uniquely, it has some of the widest ranges of humidity and temperatures; however, parts of Honduras can also be the coolest producing region in the country. The potential for adored flavor notes ranging from chocolate, caramel and citrus to tropical fruit flavors and on to even sweeter varieties is exponential. Much like Mexican Tequila, a popular region called Copan marks Honduras as a notable origin, being part of the Honduran Western Coffee Geographical Indication.
Guatemala
Guatemalan highlands are the perfect environment for arabica, due to the natural shade of the jungle. The natural full cups of Guatemalan coffee are some of the most satisfying fragrant and aromatic coffees in the world.
Sumatra
Sumatra, ideally suited for growing arabica coffee, uses a process called Wet Hulling to create its distinctive characteristics. With such a wet climate, the aromas and flavors of the coffee are known to be a little funky: earthy, spicy, wild, mossy, mushroomy. It’s not always the most popular coffee, but it is definitely unlike most other coffees.
Peru
Peru is one of the largest producers of coffee in the world, being one of the major producers of organic and Fair Trade coffee beans. The importance of Fair Trade makes Peru a vision for Death Wish Coffee Company. The significant impact this makes on our farmers, as well as their families and surroundings, makes Peru significant to us.
India
Being the 6th largest coffee producer in the world, India, believe it or not, traditionally starts their day most often with a cup of tea. However, in Southern India, the tradition is a little different. In Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, coffee is often the drink of choice. “This is the region where, so the story goes, Baba Budan smuggled in his seven coffee beans from Yemen in the 17th century while returning from pilgrimage, beginning the cultivation of coffee in India.”
